Having missed the Prosecco DOC UK Round with untimely flu, Markus Reiterberger (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) is back in the saddle and poised for a Laguna Seca return. The German, who has shown flashes of brilliance throughout the 2019 campaign, will take to the legendary American venue for the first time, having missed the 2016 event through injury, and parted ways with his team long before the same round a year later.

Taking to Twitter, Reiterberger broke the news that he will be back in action in the United States. BMW as a manufacturer have not been the most successful in the USA, with just two podiums coming with Chaz Davies and Marco Melandri, back when WorldSBK returned to famed American circuit in 2013. "On Wednesday, I had planned to fly to Donington, but when I woke up, I felt sick,” said Reiterberger, explaining his absence from the UK Round. “I had a very high fever, chills and extremely severe body aches. I went directly to the sports doctor in Obing. He transferred me directly to the hospital in Trostberg. There they found a serious bacterial infection and tonsillitis. I had to stay there and got the appropriate medication to heal the flu quickly but completely.

“I would like to thank the Klinikum Trostberg, all doctors and nurses, for the great care and support. Of course, I watched all the sessions live and would like to congratulate my team on their first pole position and podium finish at Donington Park. I'm looking forward to Laguna!"
